The Dublin Debate
The Dublin Debate took place on Thursday, 25th Feb 2010 in the Round Room at the Mansion House. Hosted by Dublin City Council, the purpose of the evening was to explore issues relating to the future growth of the city with Councilors and representatives from groups who have previously expressed an interest in the Draft Development Plan (mainly from the built environment, environmental, economic and community sectors).
The debate was facilitated by a five-person, multi-disciplinary panel and a chairperson and consisted of panel input, discussion and a question-and-answer session with the audience. These questions triggered lively and informed discussion and debate amongst the panel and audience members on key topics.
The debate was chaired by Declan Carty, Newstalk 106. The panel members were:
- Brendan Williams, Deputy Head, School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy, UCD
- Geraldine Walsh, CEO, Dublin Civic Trust
- Mark Turpin, Architect, Donnelly Turpin Architects
- Susan Butler, Design Twentyfirst Century
- Willie Slattery, Managing Director, State Street International
The debate was opened by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Emer Costello. A short summary of the Draft Development Plan was given explaining the main points. The event was closed by Cllr. Mary Freehill, Chairperson of Economic Development, Planning and International Affairs, Strategic Policy Committee.
