Making Dublin the Heart of the Region
In a global economy, cities compete internationally as attractive places for investment, talent and development. As the main driver of the national economy and the core of the city region, Dublin must grow and operate on an international scale if it is to be a competitive, successful capital in the 21st century. Viewing Dublin as the heart of a region, and developing that region, will help unlock the city's international potential.
The city has recently benefited from many improvements to its international competitiveness. These include the new National Conference Centre, the two new Liffey bridges, the Port Tunnel, the Luas, the upcoming terminal at Dublin Airport, state-of-the-art sports stadia at Croke Park and Lansdowne Road and the O2 entertainment venue.
In the years ahead we must build on these achievements. Establishing economic clusters, green networks and integrated transport will improve the city for residents, workers and visitors. Setting up regional networks will help people to exchange information and knowledge, and help the city create centers of best practice and innovation.
Looking outward, branding the city and establishing dynamic partnerships beyond our borders will increase Dublin's exposure to international investment.
To compete internationally, Dublin must grow and operate on an international scale. Making Dublin the heart of the region will help us achieve this aim.
